The interring of Viv Malmgreens's ashes

On Saturday 14 July 2007, the Maylands Meccano and Hobbies Club, Perth, Western Australia, completed a long overdue task. Our club founder and benefactor Vivian Malmgreen died on 26 August 1999.

Some time ago, the club decided that his ashes should return to the spiritual and physical home of the club at 16 Kennedy Street, Maylands. It was agreed that a tree planting ceremony would mark the placing of the ashes. Members assembled at the clubrooms for the occasion. Those that had them were wearing the club shirts recently acquired for exhibitions.

This special occasion also brought the attendance of country member Garry O'Brien from Bouvard. Garry was a member of the club as a child and had not been back since then.

Rod Purdie led the proceedings, saying the words such a ceremony deserves. Dave Howe and Clem Bond added words of their own memories of Vic and the club.

The ashes were returned to the ground and a mandarin tree planted to mark the place and occasion. We all adjourned to the clubrooms for an afternoon tea. Much discussion and laughter could be heard from the assembled group.

Before departing, we were able to search the records and find the reports and marks Viv had given for Garry's model-building efforts. There were some notable efforts, so we hope that Garry again takes up model building.
